Year 3 - Rabbits

Welcome to Rabbits

Hello, I’m Miss McBarron and I’m very happy to be the teacher of Rabbits Class. We are very lucky to have the wonderful Mrs Young and Miss Riley who challenge us and help us to all to be the best we can be. In Year 3 we love to learn and enjoy working independently and as part of a team. We have the same 3 rules throughout the school which makes it easy for us to follow them. They are: Keep safe, Use your Values and Be the best that you can be” We learn about and practice these rules every day.

Our Daily Routine

Every morning we have English, guided reading and maths. We look at some fascinating texts in English and reading. During maths, we focus on using fluency and reasoning for problem solving. In the afternoons we take part in a range of lessons such as PE, history, art and DT. In history we will focus on The Stone Age- The Iron Age and Ancient Egypt. In Geography we focus on the UK. On Monday afternoons, Mrs Webster teaches us art/ DT. Throughout the week we take part in handwriting and spelling lessons.

In Year 3 we have our playtime at 10:45-11:00 and our lunchtime at 12:00-13:00.

Our Year ahead

As we start our Key Stage 2 journey we look forward to using our previous learning and becoming the best learners we can be. We have lots of fun activities to look forward to, from exploding volcanos to learning how to mummify fruit! In Year 3, we work on becoming more independent and taking on more responsibility. Children have the opportunity to become school councillors and sports ambassadors.

We believe in the power of a Growth Mindset

Growth Mindset is very important to us in Year 3. We work hard to feel comfortable with making mistakes, and using these to further our learning. We also learn how important it is to listen to feedback to help us improve.

Key skills are important

In Year 3 we work on our key skills every day, through daily reading, spelling and mental maths lessons. We also use these skills in other subjects such as History, reading information etc.

How we keep our bodies and mind fit and healthy

Each week we have two PE lessons (Tuesday and Wednesday) during which we learn lots of different skills, as well as how to keep our bodies healthy through diet and exercise. We take part in a daily fitness session, either outside or in our classroom. Sometimes we link our fitness to maths, counting while we exercise! Every day after lunch we have mindfulness time, this help us to relax ready for the afternoon lessons.
